Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of Douglas County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its material, or using a search tool indicates agreement with all terms below. Anyone who does not accept them should stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. This private website has no affiliation with government and is not a consumer reporting agency. Neither it nor its advertising partners offer a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or another use regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Its purpose is to identify Douglas County and Wisconsin public-record resources.

1. What This Website Is

Douglas County Criminal History is an independent reference website. It neither holds official records nor performs government criminal-history checks or document filing.

Its content points readers to such custodians as the Douglas County sheriff, Wisconsin Circuit Court, Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, Wisconsin DOC, and Wisconsin Stay Safe, along with separately operated search tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Users must act lawfully and must not:

  • violate federal, Wisconsin, or local law
  • harass, stalk, intimidate, or threaten a person
  • use content for an FCRA-regulated decision
  • seek unauthorized access to systems or accounts
  • send bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools to the pages
  • interfere with service performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked tool may not be used to stalk, harass, threaten, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate. Wisconsin Stay Safe data exists for public safety and community awareness. Registry information must never support vigilantism or misuse against a listed person, conduct that may also violate law.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

This website does not create credit reports, background reports, or any other consumer report and is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA. Users may not rely on site content or linked results to:

  • make an employment decision
  • evaluate an applicant for housing
  • decide creditworthiness or insurance eligibility
  • determine access to a license, permit, or government benefit
  • take any other action regulated by the FCRA

A legally required check must be obtained through an authorized official channel or a provider that complies with the governing law.

5. No Legal Advice

Descriptions of Douglas County procedures and Wisconsin law are general information, not legal advice. They cannot decide how a charge, warrant, conviction, sentence, or expungement rule applies to one person. Seek advice from a licensed Wisconsin lawyer for an individual matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is" without a promise that:

  • information is complete, accurate, or current
  • access will remain uninterrupted
  • every page is free from errors or security flaws
  • a partner search will return complete or correct results

Criminal records can change after filing, amendment, dismissal, correction, sealing, or expungement. Only the responsible government office can issue an official statement or certified record.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to Wisconsin agencies, Douglas County offices, courts, legal resources, and outside search companies. Those services control their own content, availability, privacy, and charges. We accept no responsibility for those matters, and users should read the destination's terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless another owner is identified, the website's text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Douglas County Criminal History or its content partners. Reproduction, modification, redistribution, or derivative use requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for loss or damage arising from this website, its content, a linked service, or a decision based on any of them.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to defend and hold us harmless from claims, demands, actions, expenses, and reasonable legal costs arising from that user's conduct, misuse of the service, or violation of these terms.

11. Governing Law

Wisconsin law governs these terms. Any dispute concerning use of this website must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in Wisconsin. References to public access or state criminal-history systems are informed by Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31 to 19.39, and DOJ repository authority under Wis. Stat. § 165.83.

12. Changes to These Terms

These conditions may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective when the new text is published on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, with or without notice, when necessary or appropriate.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in effect. The affected provision will be limited only as much as required to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions concerning these terms may be directed through the Contact page.
